Day 11 of the Halloween in December marathon is here, and today’s selection is one from only a few months ago: the full length directorial debut of Romola Garai, Amulet. Starring a familiar face in Carla Juri (most known for Blade Runner 2049) and a less familiar face in Alec Secareanu, this horror/mystery delves into the story of two people whose living conditions have forced them into a decaying house outside London.

Day 10 of the Halloween in December marathon continues onward, and today is one of my favorites: The Witch! One of 2015’s most well known and critically received psychological horror films is now my turn to talk about. In 2020, this film continues to hold up superbly well, and perchance be even better than the last time I watched.

Halloween in December: “Audition”

We have arrived at day 9 of the Halloween in December marathon, and today we’re going to explore a 21 year old horror film from Japan titled Audition. This is one of Takashi Miike’s 90s works, something much more different in pacing and tone than his more recent efforts. It certainly feels like a genuine passion project, ant that investment clearly shows in the final product.

Halloween in December: “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House”

Halloween in December Day 7 is here! Honestly, this film is a substitute for another I could not get or rent (without exploitative subscriptions, anyway), and since I enjoyed The Blackcoat’s Daughter just enough, it made sense to continue with Osgood Perkins. Only a year after the release of The Blackcoat’s Daughter, he directed another piece (with a shared actor, even) titled I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House. While there is even more initial promise than before, unfortunately, it winds up in a similar place of quality by movie’s end.
